About Janet Hunt 

Dr. Janet E. Hunt, FAGO, is a free-lance organist, harpsichordist, and music editor. She is the former Director of Music at Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton (Boston), Massachusetts, where she oversaw the renovation of the seminary’s Hook & Hastings organ by the Andover Organ Company. She holds degrees in both organ and harpsichord performance from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Southern Methodist University, and University of North Texas.  She has been a finalist in several competitions and has performed in many significant recital venues, including a regional AGO Convention in Fort Worth, Texas, the Methuen, Massachusetts Memorial Music Hall series, and Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston.

 Dr. Hunt has recorded two compact discs of works by César Franck and Louis Vierne on the Jaeckel organ at Pilgrim Congregational Church, Duluth, Minnesota [Recordings].  Reviewers commented on her expressive and dazzling interpretations of the two French composers.  Portions were broadcast on National Public Radio’s Pipedreams. 

Her interest in the sacred music of English Catholic composers led to the publication of Peter Philips: 75 Motets for Two Solo Voices and Organ Continuo [Editions] in 2015.  Eager to boost interest in the little-known genre of small-scale motets with continuo, she has completed several editions of motets for one to seven solo voices with organ accompaniment by Giacomo Finetti, Giovanni Martino Cesare, Nicolo Fontei, Giovanni Battista Aloisi and Francesco Maria Marini, and has just completed another six volumes of motets by early 17th-century Italian composers.

She lives in the Boston area with her adorable English cocker spaniel, Francis.
